The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation launched its latest strategic plan April 22 to guide the city through its next phase of economic development.

The overview

The Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy 3.0 outlines new goals, strategies and tactics for the PCDC to pursue over the next three years.

The latest version of the strategic plan outlines three goals and strategies for how the PCDC can accomplish them. One goal is to elevate Pflugerville’s profile by implementing recruitment practices, funding park improvements, investing in mixed-use developments and creating a marketing campaign.

Among the strategies to improve the city’s economy include incentivizing companies that create high-wage jobs, purchasing land along key corridors and developing wet lab space to attract life sciences companies. The PCDC also looks to accomplish its third goal of developing a stronger work force by establishing adult education and skill programs, attracting a four-year university and launching a barriers-to-work initiative. The initiative would focus on eliminating barriers preventing people from finding work, such as transportation issues, finding childcare and career coaching.

What they’re saying

“A strategic vision is not just about the steps we will take but also about the milestones we have already achieved,” PCDC Board President Jeff Thompson said. “CEDS 3.0 is our commitment to build upon the solid foundation of our past successes. The aim is to further establish Pflugerville as a hub for inclusive innovation, outstanding economic opportunity, and a community with a high quality of life and bold aspirations.”

What else?

Pflugerville voters approved the formation of the PCDC in 2001. It is a Type B corporation funded by a half-cent sales tax collection. This is the third version of the PCDC's strategic plan.
