Here are the top stories affecting residents in Northwest Austin this week.

1. On Saturday, voters turned down all three of Round Rock ISD’s bond propositions.

Proposition 1, which had included construction of the district’s sixth high school, failed by 52 percent, Proposition 2 failed by 53.3 percent and Proposition 3 failed by 57.8 percent.

Round Rock Parents and Taxpayers Association Treasurer Patrick McGuinness said the Round Rock ISD bond propositions “failed because they deserved to fail.” In a statement, Superintendent Steve Flores said the district will need to address funding and strategies for capital renewal projects, replacing outdated technology and accommodate crowded schools.

2. Most major structural construction on MoPac will wrap up by June.

In the coming weeks, construction workers will be finishing paving and installing the walls of the underpasses that connect the express toll lanes to downtown Austin. Several lane and ramp closures are also planned for this week.

3. Red’s Porch is coming to Northwest Austin.

The South Austin restaurant and bar will open its second location off Braker Lane by early July. The new building overlooks Quarry Lake and will have outdoor seating and games.

4. Pflugerville ISD officially hired a new superintendent.

Doug Killian, who was the superintendent for Hutto ISD, will start in mid-June. His predecessor, Alex Torrez, left the district in December after being placed on administrative leave. PfISD has seven schools in North Austin, including Connally High School.

5. PfISD also a new board member for Place 2.

Tony Hanson earned 41.37 percent of the vote in Saturday’s election to win the Place 2 seat. PfISD does not hold runoff elections.

6. City Council OKs second round of funding for mobility bond projects.

The city will be able to spend $39 million for local projects identified in the 2016 Mobility Bond Program as well as negotiate and execute an advanced funding agreement with the Texas Transportation Department for the Loop 360 underpasses and overpasses, Parmer Lane expansion and RM 620 bypass road.
