Doug KillianPflugerville ISD trustees voted to unanimously accept Doug Killian as superintendent Thursday after former Superintendent Alex Torrez was placed on administrative leave in December.

"I've seen some very impressive things come out of Pflugerville and I'm just extremely proud that I'll be a part of that future," Killian said.

Killian will start his role July 1 after he moves to the area.

"[My wife and I] are looking for a house, and we will take all suggestions," he said.

The former superintendent, Torrez, whose contract was set to expire in September, announced he would be leaving at the end of his contractually obligated term. In December, trustees voted to sever ties early and named interim Superintendent Gary Patterson to serve in his stead.

Since then the district has been searching for a replacement and announced Killian, the current superintendent of Hutto ISD, as the lone finalist in April.

Public comment periods at the subsequent board meeting have been absent of any critique or commentary on Killian.

He brings 13 years of experience in education to the district, with seven of those in neighboring HISD.

Killian received his doctorate in educational administration from Texas A&M University, his master’s degree in educational administration from Texas A&M International University, and his bachelor’s degree in political science and history from Southwest Texas State University---now Texas State University.

Trustee Carol Fletcher said she has done this process several times and this replacement has been the smoothest.

She and the rest of the trustees thanked Patterson for his work since December.
