Advanced Micro Devices Inc., which operates a business office at its Lone Star campus at 7171 Southwest Parkway, adopted a restructuring plan that includes reducing its global workforce by 5 percent.

AMD spokesperson Drew Prairie said the company announced it planned to take some restructuring actions in July. On Sept. 26, AMD outlined more details of that plan, which is expected to be mostly complete by the end of fiscal year 2015-16, in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

AMD plans to outsource some of its information technology services and application development, according to the SEC filing. Prairie said the reduction will affect about 500 jobs.

“The impacts are across the company, although lower in engineering where we continue to invest in the teams working on future products,” he said in an email. “... We aren’t providing details on impacts per site, but I can confirm unfortunately there were positions impacted in Austin.”

AMD expects to see about $41 million in restructuring and impairment charges and savings of approximately $9 million in 2015 and $58 million in 2016. The company made other adjustments in September, including streamlining its computing and graphics sales structure and establishing two regional president roles in Europe and China, he said.

The SEC filing states the plan anticipates “consolidation of certain real estate facilities” but does not specify at which offices. More information is available at www.amd.com.
