Mark Bosma, director of infrastructure for Montgomery County, filed for the Republican Primary for Montgomery County Judge prior to the filing deadline.
"I think it's time for changes in government, and I feel like I have a lot of knowledge I can pass down future generations," Bosma said.
Bosma, 56, has served as director of infrastructure for the county since 2006, before which he was a purchasing agent for Montgomery County for 14 years. He also worked for the city of Huntsville for seven years, working in construction inspection, public works and finance.
As director of infrastructure for the county, Bosma said he oversees several special projects for the county, including building construction and dealing with architects. He said he has worked with all four county precincts during his time with Montgomery County.
"I've worked throughout all the precincts and work with all the department heads," he said. "I've been very fortunate to be able to work countywide."
Bosma said he believes he could bring leadership to the county judge position, as well as 28 years of experience. He emphasized the need for transparency, long-term thinking and close management of the county's budget to keep the county property tax rate low. He also said the county needs to remain cognizant of law enforcement funding.
"One of the key factors we need to keep in front of us is that as Montgomery County grows, we can continue to provide the services taxpayers need while keeping them safe," he said. "So we need to give law enforcement the resources they need."
The Republican Primary will be March 4. Bosma joins Precinct 2 Commissioner Craig Doyal and Montgomery County Chief of Staff Doris Golemon as candidates to replace Judge Alan Sadler, who has held the position for more than 20 years and decided not to seek re-election.
