Restaurant brings northern styles to Grapevine

Felipe and Claudia Aguilera have owned Pauly's Pizza since December of 2011, bringing Chicago-area flavors to Grapevine.

"Felipe had been working for a pizzeria since he was, like, 16 years old, and we'd been working for people, so I think it was time for us to get our own" Claudia said.

Claudia lived in Chicago for many years beginning in her early childhood and Felipe lived in the Windy City during his teenage years.

The couple said Pauly's has a loyal following of native Chicagoans who live in North Texas.

"We have a lot of regulars," Claudia said. "We usually have a group from Chicago; they usually come like once a month. We get about 30-something people. We do have a lot of Chicago people and some New York people that like our pizza, too."

They usually order one of the restaurant's most popular pizzas, the crispy thin crust, or the Italian beef, she said. Felipe said the deep dish pizza — a buttery crust filled with mozzarella and pomodoro tomatoes — also is a Chicago-style pie.

The restaurant offers dining, carryout and delivery services.

Claudia's favorite aspect is getting to know the customers.

"It's a fun place to work because you meet people and it's just great," she said.
