On the evening of Feb. 17, New Braunfels Utilities issued a mandatory boil water notice following widespread reports of low water pressure and outages throughout its service area.

According to a Feb. 18 press release, NBU has ruled out main breaks as the cause of ongoing water issues and instead points to a substantial number of residential leaks and burst pipes as the cause of the outages.

“These leaks are making it difficult for the system’s water tanks to recover,” said Melissa Krause, chief communications and strategy officer for NBU, in the release. “For customers with water pressure, please search for any plumbing issues causing leaks and turn off your customer shut-off valve; this includes irrigation systems.”

Residents who do not have a shut-off valve are asked to call 830-608-8971 for assistance and can report water-related issues online.
