Michael Wehman, a 28-year fire service veteran and current New Braunfels Fire Department battalion chief, has been named the department's assistant fire chief.

Wehman began his career with the Universal City Fire Department in 1991 before moving to the New Braunfels Fire Department in 1997. He has served in nearly every position in the department.

“We had several excellent internal candidates for the position, and Mike Wehman ultimately stood out to the interview panel for his years of experience in the department, professionalism, and strong leadership qualities," NBFD Fire Chief Patrick O’Connell said. "Mike is highly respected throughout the department."

Wehman began his duties as the NBFD assistant fire chief on Dec. 9, 2019.
