Cedar Park City Council voted unanimously Thursday to authorize the use of eminent domain to acquire three parcels of land for the Cottonwood Wastewater Interceptor Project.

At its regular meeting the council approved that the city acquire both permanent and temporary easements from property owned by Lansford Family Limited Partnership for construction and operation of the wastewater interceptor. Eminent domain enables the city to appropriate private property for public use while providing compensation.

The three parcels being acquired add up to about 1.8 acres for permanent use and about 1.7 acres for temporary use, according to city documents.

The land will go to Phase C-2 of the Cottonwood Wastewater Interceptor Project, which is a budgeted utility capital improvement project intended to construct 4,800 feet of the new 33-inch wastewater interceptor line. Director of Public Works Eric Rauschuber said at the meeting the project will add additional capacity to the wastewater system and remove a sewage pumping station from service.
