Georgetown ISD officials weigh future growth in plans for rezoning

Georgetown ISD staff are weighing two different approaches to rezoning elementary and middle school attendance boundaries in anticipation of opening two new schools in 2024.

The district has held several community meetings for residents to share input on the rezoning process, which district staff said during a Dec. 4 workshop brings plans to a crossroads: choosing to adjust boundaries just enough to balance capacity as the district works to build more schools, or pursuing a more impactful rezoning to allocate students among its existing campuses and the two under construction.

Georgetown ISD staff shared some updates about changes made in the classroom to address the district's strategic goal of enhancing student learning, growth and progress Dec. 4.

What's happening?

Earlier this year, the district adopted four strategic areas of priority: student learning and growth; student and staff well-being; staff recruitment and retention; and community and connectivity. During the workshop, Terri Conrad, GISD's chief strategist for learning design, provided an update on steps taken at the classroom level to improve student learning this fall.


Georgetown ISD staff: Tax relief legislation not expected to significantly impact next budget

Georgetown ISD staff members say recent legislation providing property tax relief to homeowners is not expected to significantly impact its upcoming budget year. GISD Chief Financial Officer Jennifer Hanna said at a Dec. 4 workshop this is due to a reduction in recapture payments tied to lower property tax collections.

In November, Texas voters approved a ballot measure raising the value of the homestead exemption from $40,000 to $100,000, lowering both their tax bill and the amount of local tax revenue to be received by school districts, such as GISD.
