A shopping center at 7101 Hwy. 71, Austin, anchored by Auto Zone, Wells Fargo Bank and a Jim’s Restaurant location is in store for a facelift, Austin-based real estate development firm BBD Commercial said in a March 4 news release.

Construction is slated to begin in May at the Oak Hill Plaza, which takes up about 115,512 square feet of space near the Y at Oak Hill intersection where Hwy. 290 and Hwy. 71 converge in Southwest Austin.

The plaza, now under new management by BBD, will soon have a remodeled façade, a newly resurfaced parking lot, a fresh coat of paint for building exteriors, as well as a marquee restaurant end cap with a patio. BBD said it plans to “invigorate the roster” of businesses in the area as well—about 36,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space in the shopping center is available, including suites ranging from 1,220 square feet to more than 15,000 square feet. BBD sees potential for a few new tenants in addition to the existing ones, company spokesperson Bill Ott said in the release.

“We’ve received a lot interest from prospects in the local market, as well as a positive reaction from neighbors about our efforts to renovate the plaza and to cater to the area by recruiting businesses that are good fits for the neighborhood,” he said.

Architects Noack-Little and the construction team of Engen Contracting will work on the project. The renovation plans also include new lighting, landscaping and signage. Construction will be completed within a six-month time frame, according to BBD.
