National Beer Day, celebrated April 7, recognizes the Cullen-Harrison Act, the law that allowed for the legal sale of low-alcohol beer in the United States before Prohibition was repealed Dec. 5, 1933.

President Franklin Roosevelt signed the bill March 22, 1933, and it was enacted April 7, 1933.

Texas has 189 craft breweries, ranking as the state with the seventh highest number of craft breweries in the country, according to the nonprofit Brewers Association. In 2016, Texas breweries produced 1,135,043 barrels of craft beer. Brewers Association data shows 5,301 breweries operated nationwide in 2016. The Beer Institute, a nonprofit based in Washington D.C., said roughly 1.75 million Americans have jobs as a result of the American beer industry.

To celebrate National Beer Day, Community Impact Newspaper round up a list of Central Texas breweries and brewpubs to visit.
