The citys Downtown Overlay District was expanded by more than 5 acres Oct. 28.

City Council approved the change to include about 2.5 acres of city-owned property and 3 acres of privately owned properties.

The city-owned properties are part of the citys proposed civic center project.

Georgetown Historic Planner Matt Synatschk said the recommendation for the expansion was part of the citys Downtown Master Plan update.

The properties were also rezoned to the citys mixed-use downtown zoning that is restricted to properties within the overlay district.
