Dyana Limon-Mercado won the race for Travis County Clerk with just over 71% of votes.

Original post

Early voting results show Dyana Limon-Mercado, former Travis County Democratic Party chair, has a sizable lead against her opponent, Susan Haynes, in the race for Travis County clerk.

The Travis County clerk manages public records, such as bonds, deeds, and birth and death certificates; issues marriage licenses; conducts countywide special and general elections; and handles absentee voting.

Limon-Mercado has earned 234,790 votes of the 319,196 ballots cast during early voting, representing almost 74% of the votes.

The elected candidate will succeed the position from interim Clerk Rebecca Guerrero, who assumed the role in January after Democrat Dana DeBeauvoir announced her retirement after serving 35 years as county clerk.

Limon-Mercado, who has served over a decade as an executive for Planned Parenthood, ran a campaign focused on making voting accessible, free from intimidation, and an experience with well-trained election workers. She also focused on professionalism and efficiency, ensuring speedy access to records and implementing a court case management system for criminal cases that allows for online access to electronic documents.

Haynes, a family nurse practitioner, centered her campaign around election integrity, vouching for hand-counted sequentially numbered paper ballots instead of voting machines. If elected, Haynes would be the first Republican county clerk in over 35 years.
