Election day is March 1 for the primary elections for federal, state and county elections. The deadline for candidates to register was Dec. 13.

Winners of the March 1 primary will advance to the Nov. 8 general election.

Early voting will run Feb. 14-25. The final day to register for the March 1 election is Jan. 31.

Other statewide elected positions up for election include governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, land commissioner, commissioner of agriculture and Texas Supreme Court justices.

Many Cedar Park and Leander residents will vote in newly redrawn districts starting in 2022 as approved by state legislators this fall. The new districts are based on 2020 census data, which showed large population increases in the Cedar Park and Leander areas.

The U.S. Department of Justice is challenging these new maps in a lawsuit against Texas. The lawsuit states the new maps disenfranchise Black and Latino voters through a process called “vote dilution,” which spreads voters of color through several districts to reduce their voting power. Additional lawsuits, including one from Voto Latino, allege the new maps increase the number of majority-white districts.

New maps of the Texas House, Texas Senate, U.S. House and State Board of Education districts can be viewed online. Below are candidates for the state and federal districts that are within the Cedar Park-Leander area.
