Community Impact compiled compensation for superintendents, teachers, and staff at 15 public school districts in the Austin area to compare trends across the metro as budgeting season wraps up for most districts.
The highest student enrollments for the 2025-26 school year were:
Austin ISD
Round Rock ISD
Leander ISD
The lowest student enrollments were:
Eanes ISD
San Marcos ISD

The big picture
Austin ISD and Leander ISD were among the top three in student enrollment and had the highest-paid superintendents and support staff.
Lake Travis ISD had the tenth-highest student enrollment and the highest-paid superintendent.
Eanes ISD is among the three districts with the lowest student enrollment and the lowest-paid superintendents.
Bastrop ISD is among the three lowest-paid districts in superintendent and teacher pay.
More details
The support staff includes librarians, counselors, school nurses and transportation employees. Paraprofessionals include teachers’ aides, certified interpreters and teacher residents.
