Buda local and business owner Tiffany Poinsett recently launched Axolotl Mental Health in an effort to offer a secure virtual platform for all Texans looking to heal and grow.
The big picture
The behavioral health organization offers virtual services, including individual therapy, couples counseling, family support sessions and group therapy. Additionally, the business offers free virtual workshops throughout the month on topics aligned with the Dimensions of Wellness.
According to the business's website, studies show nine dimensions of wellness that impact your well-being. The dimensions include:
Social
Intellectual
Occupational
Financial
Creative
Emotional
Physical
Spiritual
Environmental
One virtual workshop occurs monthly and is an occupational wellness class that teaches participants how to write resumes that stand out, prepare for interviews, negotiate job offers, and manage work stress once employed, Poinsett said.
A closer look
The team at Axolotl Health can help patients heal from trauma, recover from grief, move through a major life transition, or navigate aging. The practice also treats anxiety, depression, personality disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and mood disorders. All clinicians are versed in multiple modalities to ensure the best approach for each unique client, including EMDR for trauma recovery, according to the release.
"Our clients choose us to support them on their journey, and that's such an honor," Poinsett said in a news release. "We take that responsibility seriously and will do all we can to partner with them on achieving their goals."
Poinsett said the business offers consultations at "no cost or commitment," and anyone interested in signing up for services can call the business at 737-305-4554. Axolotl Mental Health also offers sliding scale and scholarship payment options.
"We want to make sure that these groups are accessible to anybody who truly wants to be part of them," Poinsett said.
Axolotl Mental Health also hosts free events in Buda open to the community, where they teach participants mindfulness techniques centered on the Dimensions of Wellness. The business plans to partner with local businesses in the future by posting a calendar on their website that includes local wellness events, like yoga and meditation.
"I really want to make sure that people understand, even if you're not going to do therapy ... there's still little changes that you can make that can improve your well-being and even physical health," Poinsett said. "So, just showing people how to engage in the dimensions of wellness is really important. And I think Buda has just an incredible community."

Another detail
Poinsett said they chose the name Axolotl Mental Health because of the resilience of its namesake.
"The thing about Axolotls is they're an amphibian, but if they lose an arm, it grows back," Poinsett said. "They even can grow back organs; they're very resilient. And so we thought that growth part was really cool. So our tagline is 'grow something new.'"
