During a workshop meeting Monday, May 14, the Tomball ISD board of trustees heard a presentation from Chief Financial Officer Jim Ross on projects funded by the $275 million bond referendum, which was approved by voters in November 2017. Ross said the district sold its first round of bonds in January, totaling $150 million, which allows construction to begin on a number of projects. The district will look to sell the remaining $125 million in bonds in January 2020 to provide funding for a second phase of projects. Selling the bonds in two phases allows the district to hold its debt service tax rate at 30 cents, Ross said. Ross said the construction schedule is tentative, as projects have hit delays from new county development standards. "I will say this is tentative. There's things to work on. I wish everybody's project could be up front, because I certainly hear it," he said during the meeting. "But I can't sell $275 million in bonds at one time. The cost is just too great. We'd have to raise our tax rate, and that's not what we said we would do." Here's when each bond-funded project is anticipated to begin construction, according to Ross' presentation Monday night.
