Fort Bend ISD approves secondary boundary changes
Hundreds of Fort Bend ISD students will be zoned to different schools in the 2027-28 school year after the board of trustees approved new secondary boundaries.
The secondary boundary changes, which were approved at an Oct. 5 meeting, will impact approximately 1,744 students with the goal of relieving overutilization in Elkins, Austin and Travis high schools.
Middle school changes were approved in a 6-1 vote with trustee Adam Schoof dissenting, while the high school boundaries had two scenario options.

5 Houston hotels earn coveted 2026 Michelin Key
Five local properties in Houston earned a Michelin Key this year, up from four nominations in 2025.
A Michelin Key is a distinction awarded by the Michelin Guide to "exceptional" hotels, functioning as the hotel equivalent of a Michelin Star for restaurants, according to the Michelin Guide website.

Target holds ribbon-cutting ceremony for new Texas Heritage Marketplace store
Target employees, community members, developers and elected officials gathered Oct. 6 to celebrate the opening of the national retailer’s new location in Texas Heritage Marketplace.
The 148,000-square-foot store will be the largest food-forward Target in the Greater Houston area and is expected to create around 200 jobs, Community Impact previously reported.

Clear Creek ISD superintendent announces April retirement
Clear Creek ISD Superintendent Karen Engle will retire in April, according to an Oct. 5 release from CCISD.
“Serving the students, families and employees of Clear Creek ISD has been one of the greatest privileges of my career,” Engle said in the release. “I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside trustees, parents, staff and community members to ensure our children experience a world-class education.”

Manvel rejects 760-acre mixed-use development
Manvel City Council pushed back on a proposed nearly 760-acre mixed-use development at its Oct. 5 meeting, raising concerns about the project’s density, traffic and compatibility with existing zoning ordinances.
The Aurelia development, proposed by Houston-based real estate development firm Avani Communities, would encompass nearly 760 acres north of Hwy. 6 along Masters Road and Oilfield Road, city documents show.

32 Houston-area restaurants make 2026 Michelin Guide
Thirty-two Houston-area restaurants have been named to the internationally recognized Michelin Guide, announced Oct. 8 in a press release.
The Michelin Guide started in 1889, when two French brothers founded the tire company Michelin, according to the website. The guide was created as a way to connect travelers with places they could eat and stay along their journeys.
The tradition has continued to this day, when restaurant inspectors anonymously visit and review dining establishments and hotels, per the website.
