Several Fort Bend County candidates have shared their thoughts following the outcome of the March 3 election, which has the Democratic race for county judge and both races for Precinct 4 commissioner headed to a May 26 runoff.
In their own words
In a March 4 statement, Daniel Wong, who secured a place on the November ballot as the Republican county judge candidate, thanked his family, volunteers, supporters and voters who participated in the March primary election, which he says is the “future of Fort Bend County.”
“As someone who believes deeply in the American Dream, tonight represents something meaningful—the possibility of making history as the first Chinese American county judge in Texas,” he said in the post. “But more importantly, it represents the shared belief that leadership should be earned through service, hard work and a commitment to our community.”
Meanwhile, the Democratic race will head to a May runoff between Dexter L. McCoy and Rachelle Carter, who garnered 40.42% and 18.93%, respectively.
McCoy thanked voters in a March 4 Facebook video for showing up to the polls. He also thanked his opponents who put their names on the ballot, which he said helped drive more voters to the polls.
“Democrats showed up and showed out at the polls this primary election, and I’m so thankful for your votes and your faith in the movement we are trying to build in this fight for the people,” he said in the video.
Carter also thanked volunteers and voters in a March 4 Facebook post and said the campaign will keep moving forward with a “new vision, new direction for Fort Bend County.”
“This campaign for Fort Bend County judge has never been about me,” she said in the post. “It’s about our community, our future and making sure Fort Bend County continues to be a place where families, businesses and neighborhoods can thrive.”
What they’re saying
Both races for Precinct 4 commissioner will head to May runoffs, with Brittanye Lashay Morris and April Jones on the Democratic ballot and Ken Mathews and Adam Schoof on the Republican ballot.
In a March 5 Facebook post, Morris said she was “grateful” to every voter, volunteer, supporter and donor who believed in her campaign and “carried her to the top of the race.”
“We finished first in the primary, and that happened because this community showed up in a powerful way,” she said in the post.
Jones also thanked voters as well as her fellow candidates in a March 4 Facebook post.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to all those who supported my campaign in the Primary election,” she said in the post. “Nevertheless, our work is not yet complete, and we now proceed to the runoff.”
On the Republican side, candidate Ken Mathews told Community Impact he was both "humbled and honored by the overwhelming support."
"You stood strong, bucked the trend and handedly delivered the win in all but three of the voting precincts within the county commissioner Precinct 4 territory," he said in the statement. "I know for a fact that the political machine on both sides took notice, you spoke loudly that you want a commissioner who isn't the normal politician, someone who is listening to what you, the people, need and want."

Democratic incumbent Grady Prestage also secured his bid for Precinct 2 commissioner in the November election against Republican candidate Tony Aranda, who ran unopposed.
In a statement, Prestage thanked the residents of Precinct 2 for their continued trust and support. He also thanked voters for taking time to participate in the election.
"Our work has always been about improving the quality of life for the families and neighborhoods of Fort Bend County, and I remain committed to that mission," he said in the statement. "I look forward to continuing the work alongside our community to keep moving Fort Bend County forward.”

Unofficial Fort Bend County election results show several judge and commissioner races are heading to a May 26 runoff.
On the ballot
Daniel Wong has secured the Republican primary for county judge with 54.6% of the vote, although the Democratic race will head to a May runoff between Dexter McCoy and Rachelle Carter, who garnered 40.42% and 18.93%, respectively.
Meanwhile, incumbent Grady Prestage claimed the Precinct 2 commissioner Democratic race with 61.58% over challenger Larry Blackmon. Prestage will face Republican candidate Tony Aranda in the November election.
Additionally, both Precinct 4 commissioner races with head to a runoff, data shows.
On the Democratic side, Brittanye Lashay Morris will face April Jones in a May runoff, garnering 18.84% and 17.63%, respectively. Republicans Ken Mathews and Adam Schoof will also appear on May ballots with 45.5% and 29.69%, respectively.

Fort Bend County has begun to release election day results, although some precincts remain unreported.
At the polls
As of 11:05 p.m., Democratic candidate Dexter McCoy and Republican candidate Daniel Wong have maintained their leads in the primary races for county judge, amassing 42.06% and 55.97% of the vote, respectively.
In the Precinct 2 commissioner race, Democratic candidate incumbent Grady Prestage continues his lead with 63.31% of the vote, trailed by Larry Blackmon.
Meanwhile, Democratic candidate Brittanye Lashay Morris and Republican candidate Ken Mathews have maintained their leads in the primary races for Precinct 4 commissioner, with 17.83% and 43.11% of the vote, respectively. If no candidate receives the majority of the votes, a runoff election will be held May 26.

Fort Bend County has released March 3 primary election early voting totals for multiple races, including county judge and two commissioner seats.
What you need to know
Five Democratic candidates and five Republicans are battling for Fort Bend County judge, including incumbent KP George.
According to unofficial early voting results, Dexter McCoy leads the Democratic race with 21,377 votes, or 43.4%, while Daniel Wong leads the Republican race with 20,634 votes or 57.01%.
Meanwhile, two Democratic candidates are battling for a Precinct 2 commissioner, including incumbent Grady Prestage. Republican candidate Tony Aranda is running unopposed.
Prestage leads the Democratic race with 12,285 votes, or 63.89%, followed by Larry Blackmon with 6,944 votes, or 36.11%, data shows.
Additionally, seven Democratic and four Republican candidates are running in the Precinct 4 commissioner race after incumbent McCoy filed to run for county judge.
Data shows Brittanye Lashay Morris leads the Democratic race with 2,078 votes, or 18.3%, while Ken Mathews leads the Republican race with 2,311 votes, or 41.78%.
At the polls
A total of 99,093 Fort Bend County voters—94,333 in-person and 4,760 by mail—cast their ballots during early voting, representing approximately 17.49% of the county’s 566,601 registered voters, according to early voting statistics.
In 2024’s March primary, almost 60,000 Fort Bend County voters cast their votes during the early voting period, with Republicans showing high turnouts with 34,113 voters, Community Impact previously reported.
Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line before closing will still be able to make their voices heard.
