The Comal County Senior Citizens Foundation was the backer for the program, providing meals to Cibolo residents.
Parks and Recreation Superintendent David Howard told Cibolo City Council on Jan. 28 that CCSCF will no longer be providing the meals, leading to City Council authorizing up to $30,000 to be used for the program.
What’s happening?
Howard said following discussions with CCSCF and the Alamo Area Council of Governments, or AACOG, it was determined that CCSCF will continue providing meals through March 31.
AACOG will assume responsibility for the program, going out for a request for proposals to find a new vendor to provide meals, Howard said. This process is expected to have AACOG and the vendor taking over the program by March 1.
Part-time staff member Stephanie Whitson will retain her positions within the program, and no changes to the program are anticipated, City Manager Wayne Reed said.
Moving forward
Reed said the approval of city funds would allow the city to temporarily pick up funding for the meals and staffing of the Cibolo Senior Program, if that need arises.
Reed said if AACOG gets behind for any reason, seniors utilizing the program should not be concerned about the program pausing.
“Sometimes when we are cooperating or relying on outside agencies, we don’t control their timelines,” Reed said.
