The bureau released new five-year data for 2023 on Dec. 12 as part of its American Community Survey, or ACS. This data provides a breakdown of household income in each city.
Breaking it down
In Schertz, the average income per household increased from $97,431 in 2018 to $112,394 in 2023.
Around 21.4% of households in the city had an income of $100,000 to $149,999, making it the largest single category for household income. The second largest group was tied between households making $150,000 to $199,999 and households making $50,000 to $74,999, with each group representing 16.1% of households.
Cibolo saw an increase of $22,335, increasing from $106,717 in 2018 to $129,052 in 2023. Around 24.7% of households had an income of $100,000 to $149,999, while 22.8% had an income of $150,000 to $199,999.
Diving in deeper
Average household income in Universal City increased from $76,009 in 2018 to $100,012 in 2023. The city had a reported total of 7,555 households, and the largest income group was households with an income of $50,000 to $74,999, representing 19.6% of households.
The second largest group is $100,000 to $149,999, representing 18.8% of households.
Average household income in Live Oak increased by $19,573, increasing from $76,643 in 2018 to $96,216 in 2023.
Around 24.8% of Live Oak households had an income of $75,000 to $99,999 while 20.2% had an income of $50,000 to $74,9999.
Compared with Schertz, Cibolo, Selma and Garden Ridge, Live Oak and Universal City were the only two cities whose top category was not at or above $100,000 in 2023.
What else?
The cities of Selma and Garden Ridge saw the largest increases to average household income, increasing by $30,419 and $36,221 respectively. The average household income in Selma for 2023 was $118,909, while Garden Ridge was at $190,526.
The largest income category in Selma was households with an income of $100,000 to $149,999, representing around 24.7% of households. The second largest group was $75,000 to $99,999, representing 17.7%.
Garden Ridge had the highest household income, with 38.7% of homes falling within the $200,000 or more group. The second largest group was $100,000 to $149,999, representing 23.4% of households.
Garden Ridge is also the smallest city within the Metrocom, with data sets covering around 1,457 households compared to the largest city, Schertz, with 15,571 households.
