Starting Jan. 1, the city of Selma will have a new residential/commercial trash and recycling service contractor.

Over the weeks leading up to the new year, trash services will be transitioning from Republic Services to Frontier Waste Solutions.

What’s happening?

On Dec. 31, the contract between the city of Selma and Republic Services will expire. Leading up to this expiration, the city accepted bids from third-party solid waste contractors with Frontier Waste coming in at the lowest rate for residents, at $13.25 per month. One of the primary changes in the transition will be the switch from trash pickup twice a week to once a week.

According to the city website, new Frontier carts will be delivered to residents during the week of Dec. 16-21, and Republic Services will remove their carts through Dec. 30.

During the transition, Republic Services will continue to collect trash using Frontier carts. Collection days will change after the change in services is completed.

What else?

On Dec. 18, city staff will host a town hall meeting to allow residents to ask any questions about the new services.

The meeting will be held at City Hall, located at 9375 Corporate Drive, Selma, from 6-7 p.m.

Additional information about the new service and frequently asked questions about the transition can be found on the city website.
