To prepare for the election, candidate applications will open Jan. 17 and be available for submission through Feb. 16.
During this time, residents interested in serving as mayor or a city council member can apply for a place on the ballot.
The cities of Selma, Live Oak, Universal City and Garden Ridge will have positions on the ballot.
Applications can be picked up from each city hall, or found online. Additional information and requirements to file in each city can be found on the respective city websites.
Selma
In the mayor and City Council races for the city of Selma, three races will be available for applications.
The mayor seat is currently held by Tom Daly. The two City Council seats up for election are Place 2, currently held by Noah Washington Jr., and Place 3, currently held by Becky Harris.

Live Oak
Two City Council seats and the mayor position will be up for election for the city of Live Oak.
The mayor position is currently held by Mary M. Dennis. The two council seats up for election are Place 2, held by Bob Tullgren, and Place 4, held by Ed Cimics.

Universal City
The city of Universal City has a City Council made up of at-large positions, meaning all three of the council seats up for election can be filled by any resident within the city that meets the qualifications.
The three council members who have seats up for election are Phil Vaughan, Steven Buck and Paul Najarian. In the council race, the top three vote-getters will be sworn in following the canvassing of votes.
Alongside the council race, the mayor position held by John Williams will be open to applicants.

Garden Ridge
The city of Garden Ridge will have three City Council positions on the ballot in May.
Positions up for election include:

- Place 4, held by Todd Arvidson
- Place 5, held by Kay Bower
