Authorities responding to a brush fire over the weekend at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis said on April 11 that the blaze was 70% contained.
According to a news release from the 502nd Air Base Wing Public Affairs Office, the fire that erupted April 9 on U.S. Army base property has affected 3,005 acres.
However, authorities said there were no additional flare-ups or growth in the brush fire overnight April 10.
“The area did get some rain overnight, and the extra humidity is very helpful with containment operations,” the release said.
JBSA has reported no injuries or damage to occupied structures. JBSA also said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
In an April 10 press conference at the entry to Camp Bullis, Deputy Fire Chief Scott Ridenour with JBSA Fire Emergency Services said seven area fire departments sent units to support JBSA in their efforts to fight the brush fire.
Those responding agencies included the Shavano Park Fire Department and the Bexar-Bulverde Volunteer Fire Department, Ridenour said. Several other organizations, including Texas A&M Forest Service, provided assistance during the blaze, Ridenour said.
Army Lt. Col. Clemente Berrios, director of JBSA’s Emergency Operations Center, said at the April 10 news conference that Camp Bullis personnel were conducting a training exercise when the fire began.
"We're still investigating the circumstances of the fire. That investigation could take several weeks to occur," Berrios said.
