Feb. 14 marked the start of early voting for the Democratic and Republican primaries that will be held across Texas on March 1.

Early voting for the primaries will continue through Feb. 25. Primaries will involve congressional elections as well as races for key statewide and Bexar County offices.

San Antonio-area voters registered to participate in the March 1 primaries may cast a ballot for declared congressional candidates for the 20th, 21st, 23rd, 28th Districts and the newly created 35th District.

Statewide races include governor, lieutenant governor, comptroller, attorney general, General Land Office commissioner, agriculture commissioner, and railroad commissioner.

Local voters will also consider races for various spots on the Texas Supreme Court, Texas Court of Criminal Appeals and the Texas State Board of Education.



Additionally, San Antonio-area voters will weigh contests for Texas Senate Districts 19, 21, 25 and 26; Texas House Districts 116-125; and various local judicial positions and district clerk.

Area voters will also mull county-level elections in Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe counties, including county judge seats in all three counties, Bexar County commissioner seats in Precincts 2 and 4, Guadalupe Precinct 4 commissioner, and Comal Precinct 2 commissioner.

Voters may cast a ballot at any polling location. North San Antonio-area early-voting sites include:

  • Castle Hills City Hall, 209 Lemonwood Drive

  • Cody Branch Library, 11441 Vance Jackson Road

  • Encino Branch Library, 2515 E. Evans Road

  • Parman Branch Library, 20735 Wilderness Oak

  • Shavano Park City Hall, 900 Saddletree Court

  • University of Texas at San Antonio Student Union Bexar Room, 1 UTSA Circle

  • Wonderland Mall of the Americas (former SteinMart), 4522 Fredericksburg Road



Early-voting hours at Bexar County polling locations are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Feb. 14-18, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Feb. 19 and Feb. 22-25, and noon-6 p.m. Feb. 20.

Local elections



Eligible residents in cities and school districts scheduled to have an election on May 7 have until 5 p.m. Feb. 18 to claim a ballot spot.

The following area local elected offices are up for election this May:




  • Hill Country Village: mayor, City Council places 2 and 4

  • Comal Independent School District: Single-Member District 6

  • Hollywood Park: mayor, City Council places 2 and 4

  • Shavano Park: three at-large council seats presently held by Maggi Kautz, Konrad Kuykendall and Lee Powers

  • North East Independent School District: Single-Member Districts 2, 3 and 7

  • Trinity-Glen Rose Groundwater Conservation District board of directors: precincts 3, 4 and 5



Each mayoral and council office carries a two-year term; each school and water district board term carries a four-year term.

Cities and school districts also have until 5 p.m. Feb. 18 to order a special election for May 7. The city of San Antonio will float a $1.2 billion bond proposal May 7.
