The details
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has partnered with Camp Huaco Springs—located at 4150 River Road—to offer nearly half a mile of public riverbank access for trout fishing, according to a Dec. 2 news release from the TPWD.
Stocked with over 20,000 rainbow trout from December through February, the location is ideal for bank and wade fishing or launching nonmotorized boats, according to the release.
- Dates: Dec. 6-March 3
- Hours: 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset
- Bag Limit: Five trout per day, no minimum length
Camp Huaco Springs is private property allowing public access under specific rules. According to Olivia Meuth, reservations manager, visitors must:
- Have a signed, valid fishing license with a freshwater endorsement (required for those ages 17 and older)
- Follow Guadalupe River regulations, which prohibit glass and styrofoam
- Leave pets at home, as they are not permitted onsite
Before heading out, check the 2024-25 Trout Stocking Schedule for stocking dates and other fishing locations.
Special regulations apply 800 yards downstream from Canyon Dam to the second bridge on River Road, as per the release.
