The backstory
Owner Constance Tina Phardis said in a way she is reviving the bakery her father opened as a Greek immigrant to Toronto in the 1980s. That storefront closed in 1995 due to a recession.
“The whole thing about Demi’s Sweets, it's really part of who I am, who my family is, because my old man used to own a Greek bakery in Toronto, Canada,” Phardis said. “He opened it August 15, 1985 with very little English, but fresh-off-the-boat style, and was successful. He did really well on historical Bloor Street.”
On the menu
Phardis said she plans to offer some of the same baked goods her father once did, along with continental pastries and Greek and American coffee. A grand opening will be held along with a ribbon-cutting alongside the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce Aug. 15.
