The July 8 episode of the DFW Breakdown gets into how the Bois D’arc Creek Reservoir will serve as a new water source for 13 North Texas cities, the city’s journey to make Dallas a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and more news from across the metroplex.

2026 FIFA World Cup to bring matches to Dallas

The last time the World Cup was held in North America was 1994, when Dallas hosted six world cup games at Cotton Bowl Stadium. Flash forward to 2018, when FIFA announced that the “United 2026” World Cup would be hosted in North America, with an expanded field of 48 teams to play matches across cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The journey came full circle when it was revealed in June that Dallas will host multiple matches alongside 15 other North American cities.

Listen to hear Monica Paul, Executive Director of the Dallas Sports Commission, discusses the process of pitching the city to FIFA officials and provide insight into the work that lies ahead, including the city’s ambitions for increased World Cup involvement.
