The June 10 episode of The Austin Breakdown discusses local officials' responses to recent events of gun violence in Texas, as well as rising mental health issues among children in Central Texas and more.

Austin leaders hold summit on gun violence

Austin and Travis County officials gathered for a summit and public town hall on gun violence, discussing behind closed doors potential strategies to address gun violence in the community, as well as sharing testimony from survivors and available resources.

Officials said the summit was planned before the shooting in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 children and two teachers were killed at an elementary school last month, but that the shooting had cast a spotlight on the importance of the conversation around gun violence.

Community Impact Newspaper's Central Austin editor Darcy Sprague reports on the town hall event.
