Catherine Daniels opened a CDdesigns Florist storefront in Plano in 2019 after a decade working at a florist and years building from her garage to a studio within a wedding planning business.
She said one of her favorite things about owning this business is being able to say yes to any outlandish idea customers request.
“There would be ranunculus, larkspurs, roses and tulips,” Daniels said. “It is kind of combining it into an explosion of nature. Explosions of nature—those are my favorite types [of arrangements].”

What they offer
Although Valentine's Day and Mother’s Day are their top two busiest seasons, CDdesigns Florist also has many requests that revolve around nearby Plano East Senior High activities, including performance bouquets, prom and homecoming.
“We love performance bouquets. We ask what character they are playing and we put as much theme into that as possible,” Daniels said. “We made origami roses out of book pages for 'Beauty and the Beast.' I called one [arrangement] ‘strange and unusual’ for someone performing 'Beetlejuice.'”
Striving to create custom pieces that will wow recipients, Daniels asks customers a variety of questions, especially when extra guidance is needed.
“We speak flower,” Daniels said. “If they're not sure what their girlfriend's favorite color is we ask ‘What color is her phone case?’ And we start helping them narrow down with questions like that.”
A closer look
About four years ago, a FC Dallas representative called to ask about Sunday delivery. Though most florists are closed, Daniels said yes. Over the years, CDdesigns has created a variety of floral arrangements for the Frisco-based Major League Soccer team, including team events, cocktail hours and more. Although the floral requests haven’t been finalized for World Cup events, Daniels is thinking ahead.
“Usually we'll go with the color schemes, stage arrangements and all the fun pieces to elevate their experience,” Daniels said.
Meet the owner
Daniels, a longtime Plano resident, said ever since she was a child she gravitated towards creativity and collecting natural items to piece together arrangements. Cultivating her natural bent into a career has created a sense of fulfillment.
“Working with people and being involved in all their celebrations—weddings, memorials, graduations—is such a genuine human experience,” Daniels said. “To be involved in bringing something beautiful to them is so rewarding to me.”
