Heading into election day March 1, approximately 10% of registered voters in Travis and Williamson counties cast ballots during the early-voting period.
From Feb. 14-25, 9.59% of registered voters in Travis County and 10.4% in Williamson County voted early.
In all, 82,376 people voted early in Travis County, and 41,653 people voted early in Williamson County. The last day of early voting, Feb. 25, saw the highest turnout with a total of 38,452 people between the two counties showing up at the polls.
Voter turnout in Travis County is down slightly compared to previous years. In 2020, 16.03% of registered voters voted early, and during the last midterm election in 2018, early-voter turnout totaled 11.29%. Local experts and officials linked the statewide decline in early-voter turnout to Texas’ Senate Bill 1, which was signed into law Sept. 7.
