In November, Travis County and the Strategic Housing Finance Board approved a low-income housing tax credit complex, commonly known as LIHTC, to be built at RM 620 just north of Lakeway.

The complex will be called the Lakeway Apartment Homes and have 180 units of varying size to accommodate people with incomes in a range between 30% and 80% of the area median income, or AMI.

In the Lake Travis-Westlake area, LIHTC housing is practically nonexistent, but that is about to change. The Lakeway Apartment Homes are predicted to be move-in-ready by early fall 2021.

Robert Onion, Strategic Housing Finance Corporation director of real estate development, said his office is already getting flooded with calls from people wanting to know more about the housing facility.

Low-income housing eligibility is a complex topic, and one resource for pricing and eligibility is the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. Visit its website at www.tdhca.state.tx.us.
