Clear Creek

1. On July 1, the Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District began working on in-line detention, or taking out dirt to create a space to hold water, at Imperial Estates and FM 2351. The land for the project was given to the Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District by the city of Friendswood. Timeline: July 2019-mid-2021 Cost: $6 million Funding source: Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District 2. The Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District began clearing and reshaping slopes on Clear Creek and Clearview Avenue. The project started at FM 2351 and will eventually continue down to FM 528. Timeline: May 2019-mid-2020 Cost: $4 million Funding sources: Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District, the city of Friendswood 3. Brazoria County Drainage District 4 is continuing work on widening and slope improvements on Clear Creek from Old Alvin Road to Green Tee Terrace. Work on Clear Creek at Old Alvin Road began in April. Timeline: April-September Cost: $1 million Funding source: Brazoria County Drainage District 4  

Cowart Creek

4. The Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District wrapped up in-line detention, bank repairs and slope improvements on Cowart Creek from Castlewood Avenue to FM 518 in June. Timeline: 2018-June 2019 Cost: $500,000 Funding source: Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District  

Mary’s Creek

5. Brazoria County Drainage District 4 is still on the design and permitting phase with the Army Corps of Engineers to make significant improvements on Mary’s Creek from Liberty Drive to Dixie Farm Road. Construction is still on schedule to begin in 2021. Timeline: 2021-23 Cost: TBD Funding source: Brazoria County Drainage District 4  

Drainage Districts 

Brazoria County Drainage District No. 4 The drainage district’s major waterways include Mary’s, Cowart, Clear and Chigger creeks, as well as Mustang Bayou and Hickory Slough. Its major projects in the Pearland and Friendswood portions of Clear Creek are on the creek, as well as Mud Gully and the South Belt Stormwater Detention Basin.
