Residents with lingering questions about the Army Corps of Engineers and state General Land Office's plan to construct a multi-billion dollar coastal barrier to protect the Texas shoreline from hurricanes can attend a public forum next week.

The Bay Area Storm Surge Flood Forum will be held at 7 p.m. March 7 at the Bay Area Community Center in Clear Lake Park, 5002 NASA Parkway, Seabrook.

Corps representatives; Rice University’s Severe Storm Prediction, Education, & Evacuation from Disasters Center leader Jim Blackburn; Bob Stokes of Galveston Bay Foundation and other experts will be on hand to answer questions about the Coastal Texas Study. They will explain the current plan, address critical issues and past mistakes, and present proposals to protect the Greater Houston region, including the Bay Area, from deadly storms such as hurricanes Harvey and Ike, according to a news press release.

Residents can RSVP to the event at www.eventbrite.com. For more information, email [email protected].
