Clear Creek ISD officials are seeking parents of special-needs students for the new Special Education Parent Advisory Committee, which will meet quarterly to discuss topics related to special education, according to a Nov. 1 CCISD press release. The committee will be made up of 44 parents—one from each of the district’s schools. They will meet with the superintendent and other staff four times a year to “examine services [and] practices, recommend improvements and serve the needs of each student receiving special education services,” according to the release. “We are excited about this additional layer of communication and two-way partnership with our families,” Superintendent Greg Smith said in the release. “Clear Creek ISD is already home to the first special education PTA in Texas, and this committee will serve as another avenue to deepen our shared commitment for students with special needs.” The committee is part of the district’s response to a group of parents who have vocally protested the treatment of CCISD’s special education students. The CCISD board over the summer approved an audit, which is still ongoing, of the district’s special education programs. Those who wish to apply can do so here. Applications are due Nov. 14, after which a drawing for each campus will be held to randomly select the committee’s participants. The group’s first meeting will be 6-8 p.m. Nov. 29.
