On Oct. 22, the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD board of trustees submitted a maximum class size exception on behalf of Silver Lake Elementary to the Texas Education Agency.

Currently, kindergarten through fourth-grade classes are allowed to have a maximum of 22 students per class. All elementary classrooms in GCISD follow this requirement except for one third-grade classroom at Silver Lake Elementary, which has 23 students.

Should the maximum class size exception be approved, the campus will provide written notice of the exception to the parents within 31 days of approval receipt.

In an item on the consent agenda trustees approved $8,600 from 2011 bond funds that were earmarked for critical repairs and upgrades to be used for repairs at the Grapevine High School softball bleachers.

According to district documents, two of the piers at the high school's softball bleachers are cracking. An engineer was sent to evaluate the condition of the bleachers, who in turn found the bleachers to be structurally sound but recommended the district repair the concrete that is cracking at the top of the pier.

The document packet explained the cracking occurred due to the beams lacking slotted holes to allow for expansion and contraction as the steel expands with temperature changes, so the holes need to be made.
