In support of Mental Health Month, several Austin-area bakeries are selling special pastries and desserts that raise awareness for mental health.

Austin’s local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness or NAMI organized the area’s “Depressed Cake Shop” initiative.

To participate, a bakery must offer at least one item that incorporates a gray element such as gray frosting and a colorful element such as rainbow sprinkles to symbolize hope through the “gray cloud” of mental illness. Bakeries are also provided with conversation cards that help customers start conversations about mental health.

Check out these Austin-area bakeries offering special Depressed Cake Shop pastries and sweets throughout the month of May.
