Austin and Round Rock ISD trustees both approved in May teacher salary increases for the 2017-18 school year. AISD’s 1.5 percent pay raise is the lowest in four years. “Our 1.5 percent salary increase is modest compared to other surrounding school districts,” AISD Chief Financial Officer Nicole Conley Johnson said. “Because of our revenue limitations and the pressure recapture puts on our budget, we are not able to go beyond that at this time; we don’t feel it is prudent.” RRISD offered the same raise it did for the 2016-17 school year. Pflugerville ISD also approved a pay raise in April of 2.5 percent, slightly higher than last year’s increase of 2 percent. On May 6, RRISD voters turned down all three of the district’s bond propositions, including funds for a new high school. RRISD trustee Paul Tisch said he did not want to tie the board’s salary decision to the election. “I would rather cut something else than cut the opportunity to give them a raise now,” Tisch said.
