Six things were discussed, approved or recommended at Harris County Commissioners Court this morning, Feb. 28. 1) Harris County Toll Road Authority: There was a recommendation for authorization to pay law enforcement and incident response technicians overtime for DWI enforcement at an approximate cost of $3.5 million for fiscal year 2017-18. 2) Public health services: A request was made for approval of temporary custody agreements to allow various organizations to take custody of certain animals needing acute, urgent veterinary care before expiration of the three-day hold period mandated by Harris County Animal Control regulations. 3) Community services: Nuisance Abatement Project asked for $150,000 to pay for the identification, investigation and coordination of the abatement of 15 abandoned, unsafe and unsanitary structures within the county service area. 4) Harris County Toll Road Authority: A recommendation was made for authorization to award a contract to Texas Wall and Landscape LLC, which submitted the lowest and best bid in the amount of $5 million for the construction of a noise abatement barrier system, including improvements along Dennis Johnston Park and the Hardy Toll Road in Precinct 4. 5) Commissioner Precinct 4: A request for authorization was made to accept a check from David Feldmeyer for $1,227 to buy a memorial bench to be placed at Jesse Jones Park that will be dedicated to Adrienne Louise Pool, who died in March. 6) Public comments were heard opposing and approving removing 287(g), per the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The program allows local officials to perform the functions of federal immigration agents, which assists federal agents with immigration issues, including deportations.
