Five Austin ISD trustees recited their oaths and were sworn into office at Monday night's board meeting. Superintendent Paul Cruz commended re-elected members and welcomed newcomer trustee Cindy Anderson to the board. Here are their remarks.
Jayme Mathias- District 2
Rev. Dr. Jayme Mathias was sworn in for his second term as Austin ISD District 2 trustee on Nov. 28.[/caption]
"I am deeply honored to serve as your District 2 trustee," Mathias said. "I look forward to the joys and challenges that lie ahead."
Austin ISD District 3 Trustee Ann Teich was sworn in for her second term on Nov. 28.[/caption]
Ann Teich- District 3
"I want to remind people that it is teaching in the classroom where rubber meets the road, and it's traditional public education that preserves our democratic values," Teich said. "I am honored to be able to continue to represent all of my constituents."
Austin ISD District 5 Trustee Amber Elenz was sworn in for her second term on Nov. 28.[/caption]
Amber Elenz- District 5
"I will continue to work very hard to the best of my ability that all students in district 5 and throughout the district are getting the best education possible," Elenz said.
Yasmin Wagner was sworn in for her second term at Austin ISD District 7 trustee on Nov. 28.[/caption]
Yasmin Wagner- District 7
"Every day I’m energized by the students in our classrooms," she said. "I’m so proud to be here, thank you for the opportunity to serve and do this work."
Austin ISD at-large Position 8 Trustee Cindy Anderson was sworn in Nov. 28 by her predecessor and outgoing board member, Gina Hinojosa.[/caption]
Cindy Anderson- At-large Position 8
"I hope I can do [predecessor Gina Hinojosa] justice in serving all students in AISD and ensuring every single child has the opportunity to have the same phenomenal education my children received in this district," Anderson said.
