The Woodlands Township will host the annual 3R Bazaar event celebrating America Recycles Day from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday.
This free event provides a unique opportunity for residents to recycle items they are not able to include in their regular curbside recycling. Some of these items include alkaline batteries, eyeglasses, gently worn clothing and shoes, toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes and floss containers. The event will offer on-site paper-shredding services.
Sponsored in part by The Woodlands Grassroots Environmental Education Network, a nonprofit organization, the event will also be home to the Buy Recycled Boutique, one of the organization’s major fundraisers.
“What we do is we sell items made of recycled materials,” The Woodlands GREEN President Cinda Hitchcock said. “At first, it started as us just wanting to demonstrate what you could do with recycled materials but then people started wanting to buy the items so we thought that was a good idea and we turned it into a fundraiser.”
This year’s Buy Recycled Boutique will feature items including glassware from the Couronne Company, Rada Cutlery, Green Toys, Hand Puppets and Soulmate Socks, all made from recycled goods.
“We’re also selling rain barrels this year which is new,” Hitchcock said. “They’re $85 and residents who are customers of The Woodlands Joint Powers Agency will get a rebate if they purchase one. As of [Nov. 7] we still have 13 rain barrels left to sell.”
Residents also have three opportunities throughout the event to attend a compost class. Classes will be held at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
The event will take place at the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Services building, located at 8203 Millenium Forest Drive, The Woodlands. The 3R Bazaar is also sponsored by Waste Management, The Woodlands Development Company and H-E-B.
