Here's a rundown of what residents of Cedar Park and Leander need to know this week:

Tuesday

National Night Out promotes crime prevention and community partnerships with police. The Leander Police Department will send officers to registered neighborhood events throughout the city. The city of Cedar Park is also accepting neighborhood event registration.

Wednesday 

Students are encouraged to walk or bike to school for the 20th annual Walk to School Day. Westside Elementary School, 300 Ryan Jordan Lane, Cedar Park, and Giddens Elementary School, 1500 Timberwood Drive, Cedar Park, are among the participating schools.

Thursday

Leander ISD board of trustees will meet at 6:15 p.m. at 1900 Cougar Country Drive, Cedar Park. The district expects the public portion of the meeting to be at 6:50 p.m. Agenda items include an update on state accountability and student performance, notice of the LISD board election and class size waivers. Cheech and Chong and WAR visit the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park, 2100 Avenue of the Stars, Cedar Park, for the "Up in Smoke Tour." WAR will perform its music catalog while comedy duo Cheech and Chong perform songs and skits. The show starts at 8 p.m., and ticket prices range from $40.45-$70.75. The Leander City Council meeting that was scheduled for Thursday was rescheduled. Council will instead meet Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Friday

The city of Cedar Park will host an outdoor screening of the children's film "Hotel Transylvania 2" at 7:30 p.m. at Elizabeth Milburn Park, 1901 Sun Chase Blvd., Cedar Park. The event is free. No concessions are available, but attendees are welcome to bring picnics, blankets and lawn chairs.
