The couple will host three special wine tasting events this week to mark the occasion while supporting Hope's Door, a nonprofit organization based in Plano. The first tasting is schedule for 6-8 p.m. April 21 at Corner Wines, 4017 Preston Road, Ste. 535, and will feature wines from South America. The second will be from 6-8 p.m. April 22 and will feature wines from France, Italy and Spain. The celebration will conclude on April 23 with a tasting of wines from California, Oregon and Washington from 6-8 p.m. Tickets are $25 each day and can be purchased at the Hope’s Door website or by calling 972-422-2911. Corner Wines will donate all ticket sales and 15 percent of additional sales to the local shelter and counseling center. Corner Wines has also stayed true to its goal of giving back to the community during its 10 years in business. In the past decade the store has given approximately $175,000 back to local charities, Jim said. "Giving back to the Plano and Collin County community is one of our goals and being involved in a small way by supporting nonprofit organizations that help people is important to us," Jim said. Corner Wines’ niche has been in finding small production, handcrafted wines that are not in many or any other local stores, Jim said. One of the secrets to the McDevitt’s success has been the personal touch that shows in the shop’s wide variety of wines, he said. Each one is specially selected based on customer trends. “We have developed strong relationships with our customers over the 10 years; in fact, most have become good friends,” Jim said. The McDevitt’s said they look forward to many more years in Plano and hope to educate and energize younger age groups and “demystify” wine to them as they start their wine journey. “We want to help them understand the different types and styles of wine, which wines pair well with different foods and explaining the difference between different countries,” Lynda said. “Of course, we like to educate anyone that comes into Corner Wines.” The couple is also planning a group trip to southwestern Germany this October.
