Six hundred hours of meetings and 6,000 survey responses culminated in the selection of the 64GB iPad Air 2 for Eanes ISD students, according to an EISD news release.
The EISD board of trustees voted at its March 8 meeting to approve the EISD digital learning task force’s recommendation to purchase the technology. The $5.041 million expense will be subtracted from the $52.5 million bond approved by the EISD community in May 2015.
Students will receive the new iPads at the start of the 2016-17 school year, EISD Communication Director Claudia McWhorter said.
The district plans to sell the current iPad 2 inventory, she said.
In addition, students will be limited to using only distraction-free, educational applications that the school district deems appropriate, Superintendent Tom Leonard said at the March 29 board of trustees meeting.
