Transportation Updates

1. I-35 entrance/exit ramps


Three northbound entrance and exit ramps on I-35 between the Blanco River and FM 150 will be reversed. Two southbound entrance and exit ramps between the Blanco River and FM 150 will also be reversed. A new northbound exit ramp will also be built between the Blanco River and Yarrington Road.
Timeline: spring 2016-summer 2017
Cost: $8.97 million

2. Aquarena Springs Drive overpass


Lane closures on portions of Aquarena Springs Drive in San Marcos began in early March as part of a project that will construct an overpass over the Union Pacific railroad tracks that cross the road near Post Road. The closures are expected to last through early April. When completed, the road will feature an overpass with two lanes in each direction as well as access roads and sidewalks.
Timeline: May 2015-late 2017
Cost: $20.7 million

3. Yarrington Road bridge


The old Yarrington Road bridge over I-35 in San Marcos was demolished in early February. The new bridge is in place, and officials anticipate a summer completion

4. Goforth Road improvements


Construction on Goforth Road in Kyle will begin in late March, pending City Council’s approval of awarding the construction contract. The city received seven bids, each of which was less than the engineer’s estimate. The project, which will widen the road from two to three lanes, spans from I-35 to Bunton Creek Road.
Timeline: spring 2016-spring 2017
Cost: $6.6 million

5. Marketplace Ave. extension


The project, which will connect Old Town Kyle to Kyle Marketplace and provide improved north-south mobility was more than 70 percent complete in late February. Final surfacing and border concrete still need to be poured, and landscaping needs to be planted.
Timeline: September 2015-July 2016
Cost: $3.8 million
