Katy ISD Superintendent Alton Frailey announced Tuesday he intends to retire after this school year.
Frailey sent a letter to students, staff and parents via the district’s email server announcing his retirement, effective Aug. 31.
“The remarkable level of District and community support I have experienced while at Katy ISD is something most superintendents can only hope for during their tenures as educational leaders,” Frailey wrote.
Frailey has been the superintendent of KISD for the past nine years and has been working in public education for 33 years.
During his tenure as superintendent, the district improved its rankings under the Texas Education Association from midlevel to the highest attainable level.
Prior to working for Katy ISD, Frailey was the superintendent of DeSoto ISD. He started his career as a teacher in the Goose Creek ISD in 1983.
“Together, with a dedicated, exceedingly knowledgeable and committed staff, we have continued to form one of the highest quality school districts in America,” Frailey wrote. “I also want to thank our parents, faith leaders, business partners and numerous volunteers (our secret sauce) who have worked tirelessly to ensure that the values-embedded vision of our community serves as the foundation for our culture of excellence in Katy ISD.”
