The Sugar Land Skeeters will have a new president and general manager next year. The team announced the hiring of Jay Miller on Dec. 7. Miller will replace former president Chris Jones. “I’m very excited about this new opportunity,” Miller said. Previously, Miller was the president of the Triple-A team Round Rock Express and a member of its management for a combined 13 years. His experience also includes a four-year stint as executive vice president of the Texas Rangers. Miller was not looking for another position when Skeeters owners Bob and Marcie Zlotnik contacted him, but after visiting Constellation Field he said he knew he wanted to move to Sugar Land. As Skeeters president and general manager, Miller will oversee the team’s day-to-day operations. Miller said ticket sales will be a major focus leading up to the start of the season in April. The team’s average attendance for the 2015 season was 4,439 people per game, according to the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. According to the Skeeters organization, Miller led the Round Rock Express to the sixth highest attendance rate in minor league baseball this past season—more than 8,500 people per game on average. He was also named Baseball America Executive of the Year in 2005. “He brings a wealth of experience and baseball knowledge to our organization,” Bob Zlotnik said. “[Miller’s] focus on customer service and enhancing the overall experience for patrons and sponsors is unparalleled in the industry.”
