During its Aug. 25 meeting, the Travis County Commissioners Court unanimously voted to renew the ban on outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of the county.
The ban is set to expire Sept. 23 unless it is extended.
Travis County Fire Marshal Hershel Lee said he recommended the ban because the area has not received much rain recently. The county measures moisture using the Keetch-Byram Drought Index, in which zero represents saturation and 800 represents a complete lack of moisture.
The area is at an average of 628 on the KBDI, and some areas have reached 690 on the index, Lee said.
