Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation said construction will begin by the end of this year on a four-lane Hwy. 6 overpass above Hwy. 290.
The project also includes new frontage roads and a direct connector from northbound Hwy. 6 to eastbound Hwy. 290, said Karen Othon, Hwy. 290 public information officer.
The bridge will allow motorists traveling along Hwy. 6/FM 1960 the ability to bypass the traffic signals at the Hwy. 290 intersection, reducing congestion, Othon said. During construction, access will be maintained to area businesses. The existing FM 1960 roads where the bridge is being built will become new frontage roads.
“After construction, the new frontage roads will allow drivers to access businesses,” Othon said.
TxDOT partnered with the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce to hold a meeting with Project E-area business owners May 21 to keep them updated on the project status, Othon said. TxDOT will also host a community open house this fall before construction of the overpass begins.
TxDOT holds meetings with business owners along the Hwy. 290 corridor on the first Tuesday of each month at 8:30 a.m. at the Houston First Church of God, 14400 Hwy. 290, Houston. The meetings give attendees an opportunity to hear updates on construction and discuss concerns, Othon said. More information can be found at www.my290.com.
